As a designer, one of the most creative pieces of work you may be asked to do is to design a gig poster. Unlike web sites, logos & apps, gig posters are unique in that they only have minimal design constraints.
There’s very rarely a set brief and you’re usually allowed to have full creative control to design something that suits the mood, music & personality of the band. Of course, that brings with it a challenge – when you have a completely empty canvas prints, it can be extremely difficult to know where to start.
There’s also something that music lovers cherish about gig posters. While some might just see them as an advert for a show, there’s a huge group of music fans that collect gig posters because of the interesting, creative design. This obviously doesn’t happen often with typical adverts – there are very few people who collect print ads, after all – so what is it about gig posters that makes them so special? We believe beautifully, creatively designed gig posters not only capture the personality & style of the music and the band, but – when done right – they’re worth keeping.
We’ve brought together a showcase of creative, beautifully designed gig posters to help inspire you for your next print project.
