It’s conference season! As we know it this month has a busy schedule with various events for developers from around the globe. Well October is continuing the agenda. I’m talking about Flashpitt Conference 2009, 2nd edition that will take place in Pittsburgh, PA on the 15th and 16th of next month.

So, let’s go through some of the information I gathered reading about this event to have an in depth view of what’s going to happen there, who are the speakers, price tickets and so on.

Introduction

This conference is brought by On the Fridge, LLC. Last year the event was Pittsburgh’s first major Flash-centric conference. And because of the overwhelming response from the community the organizers decided to officially make it an annual event. This year is going to take place at Sheraton Hotel Station Square.

Flashpitt 2009 is a two-day conference for interactive designers, developers and artists. It’s a chance to take a break from the daily grind to recharge, learn and be inspired. The novelty that Flashpitt brings this year is the addition of a workshops day.

On the first day there are going to be four half-day workshops with topics about ActionScript 3.0(beginning and intermediate), Flash Video and Flash Media Server, iPhone Development. The workshops will highlight the important information and give you an insight note and training from the well known industry’s experts.

The second day is scheduled with full lecture-style sessions in two tracks. The organizers are also excited about the speaker list for this year: Jer Thorp, Seb Lee-Delisle, Odopod, Dan Mall, Stacey Mulcahy, Scott Janousek, Phillip Kerman, Ian Coyle.

Like any other event there are tickets at early bird price, regular and of course for students. At the time I’m writing this post there are only 5 days left to get Early Bird Flashpitt Conference tickets. But for more details about the price and how to acquire them visit the registration page.

The event is assisted by sponsors like O’Reilly, FITC, Peachpit, Influxis, RefreshPittsburgh etc.

Closure

“All without venturing too far from home.” That’s what the organizers say…so I guess if you are from around that place this conference should be a must go. Because like any event of this kind, the conference could provide you extra information and tips about areas in which you are interested, you get to know people like minded and it’s a useful experience for your development. Unfortunately for me it’s too far from where I live, but I’ll keep an eye on the afterwards info.

To find out more about the sessions, speakers or anything about the event visit Flashpitt.com

Today I’m writing about a Flash event that’s happening at the end of this month. I presume that most of you already know what’s all about it. Flash Camp Atlanta 2009! It’s a one full-day event that’s taking place at the Georgia World Congress Center, downtown Atlanta on the 28th.

The Flash Camp is divided in two sessions according to the participants needs. So, if you are a newbie to the Adobe Flash Platform you will want to attend the special Introductory Session from 8 to 9am. This session will be an introductory guide for new developers, in aspects like Adobe Flex, AIR and Flash Builder. You need to have this basic information in order to comprehend the rest of the sessions that will come.

The second is the Main Session from 9am to 5pm. For a one-day Flash conference this session has a great speaker lineup. The group is made up from top industry experts on the Adobe Flash Platform from both inside and outside Adobe. They will be covering topics like: Flex 4, Flash Catalyst, Adobe AIR, User Experience in Rich Internet Applications, BlazeDS and much more. All the sessions have in common one theme: “Enabling the Convergence of Art & Science with the Flash Platform”.

Here is the speaker lineup and some of the sessions that were announced:

Greg Wilson, Adobe – Keynote

In an early post I wrote about The Actionscript Conference, the largest AS conference in South East Asia. And since I’m still in topics about conferences I decided to write about the largest Flash conference in Europe. Of course that is Flash on the Beach.

Flash on the Beach started as a simple Flash conference and the first edition was in ’06 having 550 participants. The organizer and head of this event is John Davey, who attending several Flash conferences as a speaker thought of the importance of having an annual Flash conference in Europe. Since then it has grown quickly and became one of the biggest “Flash -centric” conferences in the world. All the previous editions registered a remarkable growth and success, FOTB08 ending up with 1050 participants.

FOTB09 is taking place at Brighton Beach on the 20th-23rd September and the event promises to be even better then its prior editions. And like the official site describes there will be “nearly 50 of the world’s most talented designers, developers, film makers and artists presenting on 3 tracks over 3 full days. Flash on the Beach brings together the most creative, technical, inspirational, awe-inspiring, educational and entertaining industry leading speakers in the rich media industry.”

But the conference it’s not all about Flash, despite the fact that the title leads you to think so. Of course there will be a lot of Flash, Flex, AIR content but like every year there will be speakers to talk about non-Flash related things. There are sessions on Processing, Photoshop, After Effects, sessions that are purely inspirational, that talk about film making, photography, art, design etc.

The ‘Inspired Sessions’ brings something new to the table this year. Besides the Jam Session (introduced last year) there will be ‘The Elevator Pitch’. The ‘Elevator Pitch’ will give hot new talent the chance to show their best and coolest stuff. There will be 20 ‘newbies’ / ‘oldies’ to the speaking circuit getting 3 minutes each. It’s a real skill to do 3 minutes and get everything across in that time, to show the best work, a new idea, live coding, live drawing, whatever.

If you are from around Europe it’s a ‘MUST GO’ event – Flash on the Beach ‘09 will be an absolute blast. So considering the phenomenal speed of sales from last years, the tickets were sold out way before the event, hurry up and get you’re own ticket as fast as you can. Or you can participate to the draw organized by the team of FOTB, the winning prize being a full 3 days pass.

Got your interest? Then you can read more about the FOTB ’09 on the official website.

Last year, on the 19th October, the Singapore Flex User Group (FUG) organized with great achievements The Actionscript Conference, or TAC for short, at the Singapore National Library, being the largest AS conference in South East Asia. It was a one day meeting with the focus on Actionscript 3.0, Flash Platform and related enterprise development methodology.

Because of the outstanding response (within 2 weeks they had already sold-out all the tickets), they’ve decided to do a two day conference this year with more speakers, sessions and added seating capacity (500 to be more specific). So here are the news, details and contact information about this event.

The Actionscript Conference | Flash Camp Singapore is taking place on the 14th and 15th September 2009 at the NTUC Auditorium. This will gather all the renowned Flash and Flex experts around the world, for 2 full days of demonstration and highlights on the latest technologies in Actionscript. TAC aims to bring topics on Actionscript 3.0, Flash development, Enterprise Flex 3 and 4, AIR, Integrating of Flash and other Platforms, and building Rich Internet Application to its audience.

Here are some topics that will be covered (not limited to):

Flash Catalyst

Programming Actionscript 3.0

Adobe AIR

Flex 3 and Flex 4 Framework

Development Tips and Tricks

Rich Internet Applications (RIA)

Integration of Flash, Flex with server-side technologies

Check out TAC site for detailed speakers list and sessions information. There will be more sessions coming, so it’s in your interest to keep up with the updated information.

The registration for seats is now open so you better hit the official registration page . First 100 tickets cost $99 SGD. And there is more: one in every 10 tickets bought will win a FDT – Pure Edition through a lucky drawl. That’s 50 licenses that would be given away free. FDT is a powerful ActionScript tool and it has gathered good testimonies from ActionScript VIPs.
